Standing Up for the Police Officers Who Keep Us Safe

Every day, police officers put themselves in harm’s way to protect our families and keep our communities safe.

Our Ontario PC team will always have their backs.

Ontario PC Leader Doug Ford is calling on the federal government to take stronger action to protect frontline police officers and ensure violent criminals face serious consequences for their actions.

Ontario is calling for tougher sentences for people who assault or endanger police officers, longer parole ineligibility for anyone convicted of murdering a police officer and stronger penalties for violent offences against officers.

We’re also calling for action to crack down on gun violence, improve intelligence sharing with law enforcement and create a new standalone Criminal Code offence for violent home invasions, with a maximum sentence of life in prison.

While Ottawa needs to act, our Ontario PC team is doing our part here at home.

We’ve invested more than $1 billion to support police services and give frontline officers the equipment, technology and resources they need to do their jobs safely.

We’re investing more than $190 million in seven new police helicopters to give officers state-of-the-art air support and help police respond faster.

We’re also investing $32 million in specialized mental health supports for police officers, first responders and public safety personnel, while investing $3 billion to expand Ontario’s correctional system and keep dangerous offenders behind bars.

Ontario has also strengthened its bail system with new tools and resources to help police monitor and apprehend high-risk offenders who violate their bail conditions.

Police officers put their lives on the line for us.

Our Ontario PC team will keep standing up for them, giving them the tools they need and fighting for tougher laws to keep violent criminals off our streets.
